civil servantsCivil servants in the troubled Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, have applauded the government for punctually paying their salaries despite the security challenges and the harsh economic situation across the country.

The commendation came in the wake of the inability of some state governments in the country to promptly respond to the salary needs of their employees for several months.

The First Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Mohammed Inuwa Gulani, said that the state government has been a habitual payer of its personnel as the government never owes the workforce.

While commending the state government in that regard, he called on the state civil servants to reciprocate such gesture with hard work, saying for whom much is given, much is expected.

The union leader also urged other states of the federation in salary crisis to emulate Yobe State Government by making better effort at ensuring the salaries of their employees are paid promptly.

Some civil servants who spoke to Channels Television also confirmed that their salaries have indeed always been paid as and when due.

Praising the government, they said that the state government under Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has never defaulted since he took over governance in the state.

The civil servants, however, expressed concern about some of their colleagues in some states of the federation who have not been paid for several months, wondering how such workers are meeting their needs.

Meanwhile, reacting to the workers’ commendation, the Spokesman of the Yobe State Government, Abdullahi Bego, said that the prompt response of the government to salary matters is not surprising because as a retired Permanent Secretary the Governor knows the value of his workforce.

The Spokesman also said that as an Accountant, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has been prudent in the management of his meagre resources despite the harsh economic situation and he would continue to meet the needs of the civil servants at all times

Abdullahi Bego also said that the State Government will continue to venture into meaningful programmes according to the 2015 budget, giving the assurance that more would be implemented when the economic situation improves for the better.

Revenge is a Poison meant for others, which we end up swallowing ourselves. Vengence is a Dark Light that blinds all who seek it. Don’t argue with Idiots.. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
