According to a NAN report, the proposed visit of President Buhari to Cross River State for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 260km superhighway has been cancelled. A statement by Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, confirmed the cancellation.

It stated that the decision to postpone the ceremony was communicated to the governor in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

"The presidency attributed the shift to a letter written to the president by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Nana Fatima Mede. "She claimed that the proposed highway, if allowed to go on, would cut through the Cross River National Park. "The letter claimed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the proposed road was yet to be carried out," the statement said.

But Mr. Ita stated that the proposed road would not traverse the Cross River National Park, as the superhighway would be several kilometres away from the national park.

"Based on the input of the Cross River National Park, the road has since been re-routed with the alignment now several kilometers away from the park. "As a governor who is passionate about the preservation of the state's biodiversity with his establishment of the Green Police, he would not embark on a project that would undermine the environment," Mr. Ita stated.

He said the EIA report on the road was being handled by environmental consultants, PGM (Nig) Limited recommended to the state by the Federal Ministry of Environment. Mr. Ita said the governor would work closely with the presidency to clear areas of doubt, adding that a new date for the ceremony would be announced later.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has declared Kennedy Izuagbe, a former director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Plc and managing director of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited, wanted over a case of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N3.6 billion. A statement from EFCC reads...

"Kennedy Izuagbe, a former Director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Plc and Managing Director of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Izuagbe, 45, who is being investigated in a case of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N3.6 billion, has gone into hiding and all efforts to reach him have proved abortive.
He is linked to the several shady deals and gross financial misconducts that took place in the bank, in which several millions of naira were granted as loan without due diligence. The suspect, who is believed to have fled the country, is a native of Iviukhua village, near Agenebode, Etsako East local government area of Edo State. The EFCC enjoins members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Izuagbe to contact any of its offices in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Gombe and Kano, or the nearest police station.".

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu has advised Nigerian youths to stand firm against corrupt politicians in the country.

Leading a solidarity march against corruption, organized by the National Youth Council Nigeria, Senator Mantu observed that young people are the biggest victims of corruption in the country.

He lamented that over the years politicians have used young people to corrupt the electoral system and that must change.

Senator Mantu was joined in signing the anti-corruption register by the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu.

A Federal High court sitting in Abuja this evening halted moves by the Code of Conduct Bureau to arraign Senate President Bukola Saraki tomorrow Sept. 18th over allegations of false declaration of assets while he was governor of Kwara state.

At the hearing of the case filed before the court by Senator Saraki, the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed summoned the Federal Ministry of Justice, Chairman of the CCB and Chairman of the Code of Conduct tribunal, CCT, to appear before the high court on Monday September 21 to show cause why Saraki should be prosecuted over the alleged offence.

Also summoned by the court is Mr. M.S. Hassan, the deputy director in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation who signed the charge against Saraki.

Six members of a suspected money laundering syndicate that specializes in swallowing dollars were today arrested at the Excel Oriental Hotel, along Airport Road in Lagos by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly swallowing US$156,000 (about N32 million) meant for export to Brazil.

In a statement released today, NDLEA said illicit exportation of currency by ingestion is a new trend in by-passing anti-money laundering operatives.

The anti-narcotic agency in its statement identified those arrested as Kingsley Nwokenta, a bureau de change operator also known as Buchito; Augustine Onwuasoanya, 54, and Christian Okoli, 35, both based in Brazil; Uzoma Ezenwa, 33, a hotel manager; Ikenna Ezenwa; and Emmanuel Nwokenta.

Investigations by NDLEA showed that Kingsley Nwokenta the owner of Amazon Bureau de Change, is the brain behind the syndicate.

 "He allegedly supplied US$120,000 to be swallowed and illicitly exported to Brazil. Onwuasoanya Augustine swallowed 74 wraps of dollars amounting to US$111,000. Christian Okoli who resides in Brazil had US$45,000 which he wanted to swallow."

The statement by the anti-narcotic agency says one of the suspects arrested, Emmanuel Nwokenta, the manager of the bureau de change, played a "supportive role" in the alleged act while Ikenna Ezenwa, 28, was hired to wrap the money.

"He is believed to have acquired his skill from illicit drug wrapping. Ezenwa Uzoma, the hotel manager who has a strong link with members of the syndicate, wilfully obstructed the officers from discharging their duty. The agency will continue to rely on manpower training and intelligence-led drug control strategies to outwit criminal syndicates. We shall take reasonable measures to dislodge drug cartels and eradicate narcotics from our society. Any bureau de change operator that violates the law shall be punished accordingly."the statement said

All the arrested members of the syndicate will be handed over to EFCC soon for further investigation.

Kim Zetter, Wired: Now You Can Find Out if the NSA and GCHQ Spied on You

YOU JUST KNOW in your bones that the NSA spied on you and shared that data with Britain's GCHQ spy agency, right? So how can you confirm this? Through a new online tool offered by the British civil liberties group Privacy International.

Thanks to a legal victory Privacy International obtained earlier this year, the UK's Investigatory Powers Tribunal is now required to search through data the GCHQ obtained from the NSA for information collected on anyone in the world if that person so requests it. If you request the info and the Tribunal finds something, it must let you know. The catch is you have to make the request before December 5, 2015. Privacy International has made this easy with its "Did GCHQ Illegally Spy on You?" online tool.
