Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has taken a swipe at the Federal Government anti-corruption stance, describing it as mere noise-making, witch-hunt and diversionary tactic to hoodwink the public into overlooking the seeming failure of the government to deliver on its electoral promises.

The governor said; "If President Buhari knows exactly where the stolen funds are kept and who looted the funds, he does not need all these public announcements.

Rather, he should make public names of the looters and bring back the purported stolen funds, location of which he has identified. It is when he is able to bring back the money that he should make announcements of recovered funds."

Governor Fayose who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said; "You don't announce a process to the public. Rather, you announce the results because that is what is of interest to the people. It is like you are announcing that you know where armed robbers reside, won't they change their location?"

Speaking further, the governor said; "What the All Progressives Congress (APC) spin-doctors and their collaborators in the Presidency are doing is simple. It is such that when there is nothing to tell the people as per the rising Boko Haram attacks, Dollar and other foreign currencies exchange rates, petrol pump price and other seeming failed promises of the APC federal government, they will accuse former President Goodluck Jonathan and his men of corruption, insult Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and make noise about fighting corruption.

"President Buhari and his men should however know that Nigeria of today is different from that of 1983 and the system under which they are operating now is also different. Nigerians are watching and unlike 1983, nothing can prevent them from asking questions, which they are already asking." While challenging President Buhari to start the anti-corruption fight from his party, Governor Fayose said Nigerians know those who sponsored President Buhari's election and are waiting for the President to reveal their sources of income.

"Some of those who sponsored the President's election have not done any other jobs apart from holding public offices. Yet, they provided private jets and funds with which the President campaigned across the length and breadth of Nigeria. He should let Nigerians know where they got money to buy private jets and the several billions of naira spent on his election.

 "Mr President and his men should know that these planned efforts to brand PDP as a party of corrupt people and supress the giant strides of the Jonathan administration won't work because Nigerians know that APC is peopled with more corrupt people and the President must treat the issue of corruption without looking at political parties.

"No one sits with corruption to fight corruption because as it is today, President Buhari is sitting among corrupt people and he must first extricate himself from the comity of corruption that he is before his anti-corruption stance can be accorded respect."

VOA: China Says It Has Stopped Land Reclamation in South China Sea

KUALA LUMPUR — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced Wednesday Beijing has halted land reclamation in the South China Sea, but other regional leaders voiced concerns China was simply moving to a new phase on the disputed islands: construction of outposts.

Wang, who made his remarks on the sidelines of meetings involving the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), also called on countries in the region to speed up talks on how claimant states should conduct themselves in the disputed waters, through which $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes each year.

WNU Editor: One should not be impressed by this Chinese announcement that they have stopped their land reclamation project in the South China Sea. They stopped it because they have completed their work .... not because of international pressure.

Former Chairman, Senate Committee on privatisation, Ayo Arise, has urged the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure full compliance with the Forex Restriction Policy, with better attention paid to Bureau de Change.

Mr Arise on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, said the Directors of the CBN meant well for the country, as the policy would help curb money laundering.

According to him, the policy had created a challenge for  the apex bank, which it had not well managed.

He stressed that Nigeria needed to shift away from reliance on crude oil to other sectors to boost the economy.

“If a policy mandates the banks not to accept dollars, how will the banks sell dollars?” he asked.

“I think we will begin to see a better effect of the policy  if our manufacturing base grows, power supply grows and also support the local industry to grow.

“We cannot rely on oil, the country must begin to export, ” he stressed.

Talking about the debt allegation on his company, Mr Arise said that incidentally, the company in question was not owing Unity Bank.

“They had a transaction whereby the company supplied them 18 machines, they took 12 million Naira facility to clear the machines, after delivering it to the bank, the bank was owing them over 19 million Naira.

“Till date, the bank had refused to pay. There was no transaction of borrowing, the transaction was done within the bank, he said.

About his next line of action, Mr Arise said he would take the case to court,

“Although, it takes a long time and it could be frustrating. I will also report them to the National Assembly as well because it is unethical,” he stressed.

The Guardian: Afghanistan: sharp rise in women and children casualties in first half of 2015

UN reveals 1,591 civilians killed and 3,329 wounded as war enters its 14th year, as fighting in residential areas and greater role of militias contribute to increase

The war in Afghanistan is killing or wounding increasing numbers of civilians, with women and children showing the sharpest rise in casualties as it enters its 14th year, according to new figures from the UN.

"Afghan civilians have suffered far too long from this destructive conflict. The devastating consequences of this violence against civilians as documented in this report should serve to strengthen the broad conviction that peace is urgently needed," said Nicholas Haysom, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan.

FC Barcelona manager speaks to his former club's website ahead of their meeting at the Joan Gamper Trophy

Luis Enrique was manager of AS Roma in the 20111/12 season and in an interview with the Italian club's official website looked back at his time there and also ahead to their meeting at the Joan Gamper Trophy match on Wednesday evening. "It was a very positive influence for me" he says. "It was a difficult year because the club wanted it to be a time of transition with several new young players coming in while keeping the attractive way of playing. It was a very intense period, but I have very positive memories of it."   

The Asturian struggled at first "because of the language and trying to get my ideas across to the players. But my relationship with the players and the club was a very gratifying one. I am still in touch with some of the people that did and still do form part of Roma".

"There are always things that all great players have in common" he comments on managing two of the greatest players in world football. "Messi is unique and for me the best player ever, but I was surprised by Francesco Totti's ability to stay in the elite.
