NOW THE NEWS IN FULL.....

In this new article, Etcetera grades president Buhari mostly F9 for his 100 days in office. Read below
We often use benchmarks as measures of progress. 'How is your favourite football team doing at the beginning of this season?' 'How many words does your one-year-old son say in a minute?' And, of course, there's the time-honoured measure of how well a new president is doing after 100 days in office. In case you hadn't heard, that benchmark is here for President Buhari.
You may feel it's a little impertinent for me to issue a report card for President Buhari on his performance during his first 100 days in office. Yes, I'm not his teacher, and he's not my student.
But what the heck? It's a free country and everyone else is doing it. So here it goes:

Confidence:- Buhari has brought back confidence in governance. Especially in tough times, the confident presence of a leader begets confidence in those that he or she leads. With his steady demeanour, optimistic outlook and command, Buhari embodies confidence. The number of incompetent heads of parastatals he has sacked so far reflects that sentiment. The percentage of Nigerians who think the country is on the right track is up. Grade: A1

Pace of Governance:– When the pressure is high, leaders need perspective. They need swift action. Buhari is working on so many things all by himself that it's sometimes hard to keep track of all of them. He has too much on his plate. He should get into perspective and allow others do the job where he can't. It won't be a surprise to discover that the president is in charge of his travel itinerary, meeting schedule and other range of issues on his plate. He runs the risk of edging toward a burn out. Well, some argue that the president is keeping a pace that works for him. Grade: F9

Communications:– Effective leadership communication is outcome oriented and audience specific. President Buhari is clearly not an articulate communicator and he doesn't do enough to shape his message to the audience. Hearing Mr. President pronounce APC leaves you lost and wondering if you heard him correctly. Maybe his media aides should have used this as an excuse to exonerate him from the hundred things he promised to have achieved before his first 100 days in office that has now capped him as a liar. Buhari's tone of voice usually stays within a fairly narrow range. He could do better here. Grade: F9

Team Player: – There are two major factors on this distinction. The first is to get a great team in place. The second is to get your ego out of the way and allow the team to do their job. Buhari has stumbled here and most people will agree that his failure to appoint ministers in his first 100 days in office has been a setback to governance. Whether you agree with me or not, Buhari can't be president and ministers all by himself. We need competent hands to man the various ministries. You cannot achieve a lot in three and half months without the support of a team. Good leaders are the keepers of the what, not the masters of the how. Assembling a strong team also helps in establishing an agenda. Buhari needs to realise that he'll likely never have more momentum than he has now if he doesn't put a team on the ground. Grade: F9

Accountability and Responsibility: President Buhari has done fairly well with the campaign for government officials to be held accountable for their actions or inactions. He has brought a sense of transparency and has taken some interesting first steps in promoting government accountability. I think this is an area where there is a lot more to do however. For instant, there hasn't really been a clear explanation yet as to how he is going to tackle corruption and how the country will avoid being ripped apart by government officials in the years to come. Grade: C

Economy: – This has so far been one of the president's worst subjects. He may be making a grave mistake focusing all his attention on recouping looted funds instead of providing the basic needs of the people. Never in history has this approach successfully led a country out of recession. This might lead to an unhappy ending, and more inflation. The continuous drop of the nation's currency is stark reminder that we are still in the worst slump in 50 years. Grade: F9

National Security:- Nigerians are still not experiencing any sense of security. People are dying and getting maimed everyday on the streets by hoodlums and touts. Boko Haram insurgents are still using the yet to be found Chibok girls for their bombings. Armed robbers are having a field day carting away properties. The country is still not safe. Grade: F9

The National Drug Law Enforcement has apprehended a 38-year-old mother of three children for attempting to smuggle 2.04kg Indian hemp to South Africa. The hemp was said to have been concealed in cartons of Knorr seasoning cubes.

According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, during investigation, the suspect, Rashidat Abdulkarim, accused her husband who lives in South Africa of implicating her.

The NDLEA airport commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that weed was seized at the cargo section of Nigeria Aviation Handling Company.

Umar was quoted as saying, "The seizure was made during routine screening of goods at the cargo section. During a search, 2.04kg of cannabis was found to be concealed in a carton of Knorr seasoning.

"Other items in the luggage are local textiles and herbal medicines. The consignor was immediately arrested following the discovery of the cannabis."

Rashidat who sells female shoes and hand bags said she is still in shock that cannabis was found in the consignment sent to her by the husband.

"I am in shock and pain that my husband is behind my problem. My husband sent N28,000 to me to buy locally made textiles. He also told me that one man will bring food seasoning and herbal medicines to me. I bought the textiles and added it to the seasoning bought by the man. On getting to the airport, drug was found inside the carton of seasoning. I am so sad and disappointed," Rashidat, who hails from Lagos State, said in her statement.

She also expressed worry over the welfare of her children.

Rashidat said, "I struggle to fend for myself and my three children. Even before my husband travelled to South Africa, he left me with the upkeep of the family.

"I have suffered so much financial neglect. I have never smuggled drugs in my life. He had done the worst. My eldest child is only thirteen years."

NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, has promised to carry out detailed investigation, adding that any other person culpable would be arrested and prosecuted.

The first son of Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Mohammed Fawehinmi, in an interview with Punch has expressed how it has been difficult being in the position he is and having to go to court to defend cases. The interview below;

How would you describe your experience accessing the courtrooms?

I have had a lot of constraints in accessing the courtrooms, but I had to adapt by getting people to carry me up the stairs because I am very passionate about the practice of law. And if I have to improvise to get it done, I don't mind. Though I would have expected that the government would have done something about it because we are in the democratic dispensation and everything should be done in a globally compliant manner.

Do you feel disappointed that you have to be carried into the courtrooms for you to do your job?

I feel very disappointed. I feel particularly disgusted. A former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, in 2013 promised that he would make sure that the elevators at Tafawa Balewa Square, where the courts are, were repaired. When I checked probably a year later and he didn't do anything about it, I wrote a letter to him and he told me it would take them about 55 weeks to repair the elevators, I thought that was a bit ridiculous. I just thought to myself that we have to make do with what we have, because a lot of businesses run in this country by providing their own energy, so we have to provide our own convenience if we are really interested in practising law. I am sorry to say, the former administration was not interested in helping anyone living with disability. But with President Muhammadu Buhari, I believe that there will be changes. I will write again to remind the government of the situation.

Is it the disability that limits the performance of a lawyer with disabilities or environmental barrier in the courts?

It depends on which way you look at it. For me, once a lawyer can read and assimilate and can also proffer logical arguments, I don't see any restraint. For me, the weather at times affects me, but I find drugs that can modify that from my doctor and I have been able to cope so far.

Are you aware that a disability bill was passed into law during the administration of the former President Goodluck Jonathan?

Yes, I am aware

But he didn't accent the bill; what is your opinion about it?

The former president was not always attending to himself let alone attending to the people with disabilities. He was not really focused as a president. I don't think he really understood what that job entailed. We could see from the crop of ministers we had, the policies they made, all sorts of lies, leading to embezzlement and so on. All we were just waiting for was for him to just step out of that place, for someone more serious, who understands the business to come in and do the job, and I am happy that Buhari is here.

As a member of the PWD community, what is your expectation from the Buhari government? Do you think he should accent the disability law?

Yes I think he should. I think the National Assembly members themselves should look into it. We hope that they have stopped the childish fight they were having. I saw one of the House of Representatives members talking about juicy committees. It seems he doesn't even understand what is going on. They are all just there to loot, get rich and get out of the place. Under the leadership of the House Speaker, we expect something good from the lawmakers.

Do you think lawyers without disabilities are sympathetic to the pains you are going through doing your job?

A lot of them cooperate with me and I get a lot of admiration and appreciation from most of them. So, for me, I am grateful to God. I get words of encouragement from them. Those are the things that spur me on and keep me going on apart from the fact that I have passion for the job.

Music act and M.I's younger brother, Jesse Jagz has said he does not believe in going to church. Explaining further on what he means, the singer said he believes a man has to build his relationship with God and not necessary go to church before he builds one. Jagz said despite growing up in the household of God (a church) he has not been to one in the past 8 years (and that's the time he stated becoming popular). Hear him;

"I think every human is spiritual. Prayer is communication with God and there is no definite way of communicating with God. My dad was a pastor so we grew up in church. However, I have not gone to church in eight years. I believe education does not only exist within the four walls of a school the same way God does not only exist in a religious institution. He exists on his own. Growing up in church has made me realise the most important thing is to have a relationship with God. Human beings take religion too seriously."
