Nigerian indigenous rapper, Remilekun Shafaru, popularly known as Reminisce has lost his dad. The rapper announced his passing away this morning on instagram with the caption;

"Inna lillahi wa inallah-e-raji'oon. #RIP ALHAJI A . A . SAFARU. #DADDYMI.". He is expected to be buried this evening according to Islamic rites.

New York Times: U.S. Decides to Retaliate Against China's Hacking

The Obama administration has determined that it must retaliate against China for the theft of the personal information of more than 20 million Americans from the databases of the Office of Personnel Management, but it is still struggling to decide what it can do without prompting an escalating cyberconflict.

The decision came after the administration concluded that the hacking attack was so vast in scope and ambition that the usual practices for dealing with traditional espionage cases did not apply.

But in a series of classified meetings, officials have struggled to choose among options that range from largely symbolic responses — for example, diplomatic protests or the ouster of known Chinese agents in the United States — to more significant actions that some officials fear could lead to an escalation of the hacking conflict between the two countries.

The majority leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila says a 100 per cent budget implementation will be one of the major focus of the 8th Assembly now that the principal officers of the National Assembly have been chosen and the lawmakers are set for work.

Gbajabiamila told Journalists that the 8th Assembly would open up its books to the public with a breakdown of what lawmakers earn to allow public scrutiny and end the unfavourable speculations over salaries of lawmakers at the National Assembly once and for all.

Following the recent fatal crashes in Anambra state, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with the help of the state government, have commenced a joint operation on the major highways and parks in the state, to sanitize and ensure that all harmful practices that lead to accidents and loss of lives are stopped.

This decision is coming on the heels of the ban placed on sale of alcohol, illicit drugs and intoxicating substance in all motor parks in the state.

Leading the operation in Awka and Onitsha, the state Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Sule Momodu, and the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Sunday Ajayi, sensitized drivers, road users and traders at various parks on the dangers of drunk-driving and other road indiscipline.

During the stall to stall inspection, many traders were warned against the sale of alcohol and any other intoxicating substances, as all have been placed under ban. The NDLEA Commander interrogated some of the petty traders at Amawbia and Eke Awka Parks.

The NDLEA Commander addressed the park drivers and sounded the note of warning to them as enforcement would commence immediately after the sensitization.

The Safety manager of Adam and Eve park Amawbia, Mr Chimezie Nwankwo, while commending the positive measures from the government, allayed fears of non-compliance to the rules of high way safety, as they had already stopped the sale of any hard drink at the park.

From Awka to Onitsha, the men of the FRSC began the sanitization of the highways, as motorcycles and tricycles from defaulting cyclists were confiscated.

The Sector Commander warned that whoever must use the roads in the state must comply to the rules of the Road Safety so that the lives of the people would not be endangered.

It was also discovered that some cyclists take drugs, as Indian hemp was found neatly concealed in one confiscated motorcycle whose owner fled.

Reacting to the development, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, said the state would commence enforcement of zero tolerance to motorcycle riders plying designated busy roads in the state, as well as arrest of motorcycle riders and passengers who failed to wear crash helmet from August 1.

Traders and shop-owners in a mechanic village in the Isolo area of Lagos State, South-west Nigeria, are now counting their losses after a midnight fire that ravaged some shops there, resulting in the death of three sisters.

The three children – aged five, seven, and twelve, were reportedly left in one of the shops by their guardian before the fire incident.

Their corpses are said to have since been removed by Policemen from the Ejigbo Division.

Another fire incident was also reported to have happened on Toyin street in Ikeja, destroying five lock-up shops and a part of Divine International Hotel, but no life was lost in the incident.

Osama bin Laden's stepmother, half-sister and brother-in-law are thought to be among four people killed after a private jet owned by the family exploded into a fireball after overshooting a runway while trying to land outside London.

Rajaa Hashim, Osama's stepmother, her daughter Sana bin Laden, and Sana's husband Zuhair Hashim, have been named as the victims, according to NBC News.

M Ilyas Khan, BBC: Mullah Omar death: Why is Pakistan silent?

The Taliban have confirmed that their leader Mullah Omar is dead, and are thought to have appointed Mullah Akhtar Mansour as the movement's official head.

But there has been an eerie silence in Pakistani quarters in the 24 hours since the Afghan government announced that Mullah Omar died in a Pakistani hospital in April 2013.

This was despite reports that the top leadership council of the Taliban had been meeting in the Pakistani city of Quetta to choose the successor.

Pakistan's state television has ignored the news for the most part since it first broke.

"It's hard to compare two very different times. Now they can win all six titles as well. But the most important thing is that they won the treble again."

Do you think Barça will be able to win all six trophies?
"Of course! It is much harder to win the treble than the sextet. It takes five games to win the two Super Cups and the Club World Cup, a lot less than winning the Champions League or la Liga. I wouldn't say the job is already done, but they are very close and they have the squad to do it."

How would you define the Neymar Jr-Messi-Suárez forward line?
"Everyone knows it's the best forward line in world football. It was unreal for them to score as many goals as they did last season. And it's also unreal for a team to have three strikers of such class at the same time. Even with Suárez suspended for four months things worked out very well for them."[[CITA_2]]
What is your fondest memory of your time at Barça?
"There are so many. I was probably there for the best four years in the history of the club. Plus I was lucky enough not to go through any difficult times on a personal level. So I'd like to remember all four years as a whole."

"As a player that gave everything he had in the four years that he was there. Somebody who wore the shirt with dignity and who respected the club. That would be enough for me."

Reuters: New Afghan Taliban leader appeals for unity in first public message

The new Afghan Taliban leader appealed for unity in the insurgency in his first public message released on Saturday amid reports his predecessor's family members opposed his selection.

The new head, Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, was deputy for several years to the elusive one-eyed former leader Mullah Omar, who served as a unifying figure and a spiritual guide for the insurgency despite his absence.

This week the Taliban confirmed Omar had been dead for some time. The Afghan government said it was more than two years.

Thirty-three retired Generals of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery were on Friday pulled out of service in Kaduna State, North-west Nigeria.

The retired officers comprise of 12 Major-Generals and 21 Brigadier Generals, including a former General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lawrence Jokotola.

In a valedictory speech, Major-General Jokotola, who spoke on behalf of the retired generals, expressed hope that the current security challenges in the Northeast are surmountable if only the old ideals of military training, good administration and discipline are maintained.

He commended the Army authorities for re-engaging a number of its retired officers to serve as consultants and instructors at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia in Kaduna State, stating that such sharing of knowledge and expertise will be of immense benefit to the serving officers.

The Generals retired between 2005 and 2013, having served for the mandatory 35 years in service.

Having served their fatherland meritoriously, the officers were formally pulled out at a colourful ceremony that was attended by their friends and family members.

Despite the heavy downpour, a colourful match past and parade were held in honour of the retired Generals.

General Jokotola, in his speech, pledged that the retired officers would continue to keep the Nigerian Flag high by providing timely, accurate and effective fire support in the fight against all forms of external and internal aggression.

The General urged the serving military personnel to continue to be loyal, extra-vigilant, and however expressed the conviction that the Nigerian military would overcome the current security challenges in the country.

Other retirees also expressed their gratitude to the Army and Nigerians for the opportunity to serve the nation.

The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Mr Bala Bantex, who represented the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai at the occasion, commended the effort of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces in trying to restore peace to all troubled parts of the country.

The Nigeria Customs and its Benin Republic counterpart have met and agreed on the implementation of protocol by the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) on the transit of goods between the two countries, to reduce smuggling activities across borders.

Under this agreement, all secondhand vehicles popularly called "Tokunbo", being imported into Nigeria through the neighbouring Benin Republic, would henceforth be handed over to Nigeria Customs officials at the borders for payment of the necessary import duty and proper documentation.

The meeting between the two sister states was held at the Idiroko border with the representatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs and the Director General of the Benin Customs and his entourage.

The meeting was mutual, cordial and fruitful as they seek to explore and abide strictly with the ECOWAS trade agreement, especially on the smuggling of used cars without duty payment into Nigeria from the Benin port.

While pledging logistics support by Nigeria to Benin Republic on the fight against banned goods into Nigeria, the Area Comptroller of the Ogun Customs Command, Haruna Mamudu, however bemoaned the proliferation of Rice and poultry products into the country. A situation he said is dangerous to the nation’s economy.

To demonstrate its commitment towards illegal importation of banned frozen poultry products into the country, over 18,000 cartons of frozen Turkey worth 90 million Naira seized from various border posts were destroyed by the command.

It was a bad day for traders at the Nembe Water Front in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, as fire outbreak wreaked havoc on shops and wares worth millions of Naira.

The cause of the fire was not clear but eyewitness told Channels Television that those who fuel their speed boats at the water front could be held responsible for the inferno.

No life was lost in the fire.

"By seeing other share their story I finally got the courage... I'm not ashamed of my past. My mom always told me it would be apart of my testimony , all for gods glory.
