President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Dr. Kachikwu, who was the Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon-Mobil (Africa), is to take over from Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha.

He hails from Onicha-Ugbo in Delta State.

He is a First Class Graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Nigerian Law School.

The new NNPC Chief Executive also has Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Law from the Harvard Law School.

He started his working career with the Nigerian/American Merchant Bank before moving on to Texaco Nigeria Limited from where he joined Exxon-Mobil.

President Buhari has also approved the appointment of Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta as the new Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission.

On Wednesday 5 August the treble winners will play their first game of the season at Camp Nou This season's opponents will be AS Roma, a team well worthy of making an appearance in the 50th edition of the pre-season fixture

The best football is back and on Wednesday 5 August at 10.00pm CET, FC Barcelona take on AS Roma. It is the game that traditionally sees the first team squad's presentation to the public. After almost two month's inactivity, Camp Nou once again will open its doors and here are some of the reasons why you should not miss this special day in the blaugrana calendar.

The presentation of the first team for the season 2015/16. Despite the fact that the squad has not undergone too many changes with regards to last season, the Joan Gamper Trophy will be the fans first meeting between the Camp Nou faithful and the new squad. It will undoubtedly be a special day for the two new boys in Luis Enrique's squad, Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan who will be presented alongside their team mates.
It will be the first game at Camp Nou following the last event at the stadium, the celebrations for last season's treble. It's a great chance to pay tribute to the treble winning heroes following the four pre-season games so far this summer.
For Neymar, Messi and Luis Suárez, the best goalscoring trio in Barça's history. Last season they scored 122 goals between them and this season they want to continue in that vein. Luis Suárez is top scorer at the moment in pre-season with three goals. Messi and Neymar could make their season debuts in the Gamper Trophy.
With the whole squad available. Following the return of Copa América champion Claudio Bravo, it will be the first game with the whole squad available for Luis Enrique.
The Gamper party returns. From 11.00am until 8.30pm CET there will be activities for all the family at Camp Nou.
Joan Gamper Trophy celebrates. It will be the 50^th edition of the blaugrana tournament that began back in 1966. Barça have lifted the trophy on 37 occasions.
AS Roma will be tough opponents. The Italian side were runners up in Serie A last season and with Seydou Keita in their side, it is their first visit to play the Gamper Trophy game. Luis Enrique will come face to face with a club that he has coached in a spell before returning to Spanish Football with Celta Vigo.
Final test. The FC Barcelona fans will have the chance to show their support for the team before they take on the challenge of trying to win six trophies in the coming year. On August 11 they take on Sevilla in Georgia in the European Super Cup and then on 14 and 17 August they take on Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup.
Captain Andrés Iniesta. The departure of Xavi means that the midfielder now takes over as first captain. He is no stranger to the role having captained the side on many previous occasions.
Because Barça are playing, and the Camp Nou crowd never fail.

A 42-year-old self-professed Islamic cleric, known locally as Alfa, has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates' court for engaging a 34 year-old woman in s3x deliverance that lasted for three days in Lagos State.

The Oyo State-born cleric, Jamiu Mukaila, reportedly defrauded Bose Alele to the tune of N350,000 after which he engaged her in a three-day marathon sex under the false pretence of casting evil spirit out of her.

The incident happened at Ire-Akari Road in Isolo, a suburb of Lagos, where the victim resides and where the prayer took place.

According to Bose, who is still in shock, Mukaila approached her and introduced himself as Alfa and told her that he had a revelation from God concerning making her life better.

He told her that she was possessed by evil spirit called mammy water (mermaid) and that she needed deliverance to cast out the evil spirit so that favour will come her way.

She said part of the condition he gave her was that she would pay N350,000 which would be used to buy spiritual materials and that she must sleep with him for three days.

She said he assured her that she would enjoy favours after he had worked on her and that she would equally get a husband of her choice after the deliverance.

Bose revealed that she did not know what came over her immediately after the encounter as she paid the N350,000 he requested and allowed him have s3x with her for three days before she came to her senses.

She said immediately she realised that she had fallen for the cleric's deception, she went to Aswani Police Division and reported what happened.

Mukaila was arrested and taken to the station where he allegedly confessed to committing the crimes.

He allegedly told the police that he was born into an Alfa family in Oyo State and inherited the gift of prophecy and deliverance.

He said he was married and has four children and resides at Adeyemi area of Isolo where he met Bose.

When the police prosecutor, Inspector Abas Abayomi charged Mukaila to court with stealing and obtaining s3x under false pretence under the Criminal Code, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mukaila was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 5 August, 2015 for trial.

Two people are dead and others are wounded after someone began shooting at Drake's OVO Fest after-party in Toronto in the early hours of today. TMZ reports below..

It happened just after 3 AM Tuesday. Someone began shooting inside Muzik nightclub, where Drake was hosting the official after-party. One person was shot dead inside the club. At least one gunman took it outside the club and more gunshots filled the air.

In all, a man and women died. At least 3 others are hospitalized. It's unclear if Drake was in the club when the shooting erupted. It's not the first time this has happened at Muzik. A man was shot at last year's OVO Fest after-party.

Former House of Representatives member, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa has denied owing any bank as claimed in the paid advertisement published in some Nigerian newspapers today. Her name and picture appeared in some national dailies as part of debtors owing certain banks. The respected lady however took to twitter to deny the claim saying it must be a mistake of identity and it is definitely not her. See her tweets below;

Three years after the Obama administration announced its "pivot to Asia," American allies in the region are looking somewhat unconvinced.

While no one disputes that managing China and its multiple neighborhood conflicts remains on Washington's radar, this effort is often overshadowed by other priorities. In particular, the Middle East and confrontation with Russia — both historic preoccupations that had been expected to subside — keep on emerging at the top of the agenda.

The result is relatively simple. Those countries in Asia most worried by China — Japan, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia and others — are increasingly banding together. They worry they may need to be capable of taking matters into their own hands regardless of what the United States might do.

Pro-government forces in Yemen have retaken the country’s largest airbase in a battle with Houthi rebels.

Heavy casualties have been reported at al-Anad airbase, north of Aden, after intense fighting there in recent days.

The casualties came after pro-government forces, backed by air strikes from a Saudi-led coalition, retook Aden in July.

Yemen Defence Ministry officials said six rockets were fired at the airbase in the country’s southwest. They couldn’t give an exact number of casualties but said some Yemen troops were wounded.

No militants were reported to have been captured or killed in the aftermath of the attack.

One rocket exploded near an oil storage facility which resulted in a fire but no major damages. The rockets missed their intended targets, an official told CNN.

The Saudis are leading a campaign to push the rebels back and restore the government which it is sheltering.

Al-Anad used to be a base for U.S troops overseeing drone attacks on al-Qaeda.

It was overrun by Houthi rebels as they advanced south in March, forcing President Abdrabbo Mansour Hadi to flee.
